Teachers' strike cancels fundraiser

Drop Off For Africa garage sale to be scheduled again for September

The ongoing teachers' strike action has cancelled H.D. Stafford Middle School teacher Djiba Camara's Drop Off For Africa garage sale fundraiser, which was planned for Saturday, June 21.

The principal of the school decided it was best to cancel it given the circumstances.

It will now be scheduled for some time in September.

Camara had hoped the fundraiser would see people bring in garage sale items, but also bigger things like old cars and boats.

Some of the goods brought in he plans to send to Africa via a shipping container that he personally will meet there, at Conakry, Guinea in West Africa, one of the most impoverished parts of the world.

He has been fundraising for people in the country, since making a trip back there for the first time in 30 years in 2012. Seeing the poverty and lack of basic life necessities was life-changing for Camara.
