Terry Fox run hits the road on Sunday

32nd annual cancer fundraiser begins at Douglas Park in the City of Langley at 10 a.m. on Sept. 16

The 32nd Terry Fox Run begins this Sunday, Sept. 16 with registration at 9 a.m. at Douglas Park and Langley City organizers are hoping for a good turnout in equally good weather.

The walk, which starts at 10 a.m., will feature routes of one, five and 10 kilometres which will be accessible for people in scooters and wheelchairs.

The event will feature entertainment and fun for the whole family including the family dog, says run organizer Lilianne Fuller.

Vicki’s Paw Spa will be on hand to offer puppy pedicures for a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation.

There will be a face painter and a clown making all kinds of balloon animals.

Langley City firefighters will be on hand to grill the hamburgers and hot dogs from the concession, ensuring there will be plenty to eat. The concession opens at 9 a.m. and the grilling gets going at 10 a.m.

In addition, organizers are hoping for a silver parade. Seniors in the community have been encouraged to form groups and come out to walk the route.

Termed the Silver Foxes for Cancer Research, seniors are invited to participate either at their retirement communities or on the day of the event.

There is no entry fee and anyone at any fitness level can participate. Pledge forms are available from the online site at www.terryfoxfoundation.org/run. Contact Fuller at 604 533-0638 for pledge forms or more information.

A Terry Fox Run is also planned for Walnut Grove. It also takes place on Sunday. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the run starting at 9 a.m.

Location is Walnut Grove Community Centre (front parking lot), 8889 Walnut Grove Drive.

It will also feature one, five and 10 kilometre courses, and is suitable for bikes, wheelchairs, strollers and roller blades. Dogs on leash are also welcome.
