This Saturday, June 17, the Community Day Celebration, the official kick-start to summer in the City of Langley, will take over Douglas Park with family-friendly events, kid activities and games.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. visitors to the park at 20550 Douglas Cres. can experience community booths, a small farmers market, drop-in hockey, a teen activity zone, a kids activity zone, BBQ fundraiser, live music and dance.
And one of the highlights, the Junior Firefighters Challenge, put on by Langley City firefighters.
Youngsters have a chance to slip on child-size firefighters’ gear, use the hose and take on an obstacle challenge.
Fire trucks and firefighters will also be in the park.
This year, the event is also a celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.
The event, now in its third decade, was started by then-mayor Mayor Marlene Grinnell as a way of promoting non-profit community services and grown over the years, adding organizations and events.
Admission is free.
