Topham taiko drummers raise funds for tsunami relief

Students raise funds to help Japanese children who were orphaned by 2011 tragedy

Students in the Grade 6/7 Topham Elementary Tora Taiko drumming group raised $2,000 for tsunami orphans in Japan by putting on a concert at the school last month.

The sounds of taiko drumming filled the gym at the Topham to Tohoku, a taiko drumming concert held on Saturday, May 16 to support the 2011 Japan tsunami orphans. The concert, held at Topham Elementary, raised around $2,000 for those impacted by the devastating 2011 tsunami.

The taiko drumming group was formed from the Japanese immersion program at Topham Elementary. It is an after school program for Grades 5 to 7, allowing them to explore the traditional Japanese drumming.
