A Langley family was among the more than 1,000 people who shed their clothes and “bared it all” on July 9 in the sixth annual Underwear Affair, to benefit the BC Cancer Foundation.
In all, 1,076 participants dressed up in colourful undergarments in the 10 km run/ 5 km walk, raising $630,000 for research and programs for cancers below the waist.
“It was an excellent event. Very well organized and lot of fun,” said Langley’s Mike Giordano.
Captain of Team “Nana’s Bananas,” Giordano and his team of friends and family dressed up in matching yellow boxers to run in memory of his wife, Shauna, who passed away from colon cancer in January.
She was an active volunteer in cancer fundraisers in the past, so the Giordano’s felt this was a very honourable tribute to her.
“It was great having everyone come together for her,” he said.
By contacting family, friends and co-workers, his team managed to raise $4,575, exceeding their goal of $3,000.
Next year, they plan on starting early and hosting fundraising events to generate even more donations and “awareness to down there-ness.”
