VIDEO: Aldergrove anti-cancer car club's inaugural market raises $1,100

Annual car show in July will also feature a market

Members of the Langley-based Old Farts Car Club (OFCC) has a successful first run of their inaugural Valentine's Day market on Feb. 12, raising more than $1,100 which will go towards this year's sponsored patient.

In conjunction with the annual July anti-cancer car show, all market funds raised will go towards the chosen local child in need, explained Lori Chapman, OFCC member and market organizer.

"We are quite happy to have raised a bit over $1,100 towards our cause," she said. "Some vendors donated a portion of their proceeds as well."

The OFCC held a market alongside the car show last summer, and Chapman said it was a success so they wanted to try hosting it as a separate event.

"It brought in a lot of money for our person sponsored last year," she said.

The 2024 car show and market together raised a record-breaking $14,188 for seven-year-old Leilah from Langley City who was battling a rare type of cancer.

This year, funds raised will go towards three-year-old Ben from Langley, who was diagnosed on Jan. 25, with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL) and will undergo treatment for the next three years.

The show has raised more than $45,000, donated directly to cancer patients since it began.

"We want to bring in as much as we can for the person we sponsor," Chapman said.

She added that the Valentine's Day market will return next year since "everyone seemed to enjoy it."

Other upcoming fundraisers by the OFCC include Rocker Bus in May, and the car show in July, all hosted at the Aldergrove legion.
