Close to 300 people gathered along 44 Avenue in Brookswood Saturday night (Nov. 25) for the grand opening of Wish Upon A Star.

The popular light attraction, created by Carla Fraser and Brad McLean at 20681 44 Ave., features 50,000 lights, animated characters, an interactive musical snowman and Santa and his flying reindeer.

This is the third year Fraser and McLean have put up the display on their Brookswood home, and they will once again be collecting donations for BC Children’s Hospital.

Last year they raised $3,320 for the foundation, and were able to grant a special Christmas wish for a young boy with cystic fibrosis.

Hudson Verigin, then nine-years-old, received the elusive “Hatchimal” toy from the Rasode family in Abbotsford, after Fraser posted about his wish on their Wish Upon A Star Facebook page.

The display, which Fraser and McLean used to put up at their former home in Surrey, will be turned on nightly from 5 p.m. to midnight until Dec. 31. There will also be hot chocolate available by donation.
