World's best get set to take the stage

Ukulele Masters in Concert features top performers in concert on Oct. 13.

This Saturday the Peace Portal Alliance Church will come alive with harmonies from the best ukulele players in the world.

The Ukulele Masters in Concert is featuring Langley’s own James Hill, who is considered the best player in the world, along with Paul Luongo, one of the top players in Canada, the Langley Ukulele Ensemble, and the man who started it all, J. Chalmers Doane, who founded the Langley Ukulele Ensemble 50 years ago and taught both Hill and Luongo to play.

“One of the things that is not widely known in this community, but is becoming extremely well known everywhere else in the ukulele world, is that Langley is considered the hotbed of the ukulele,” said Peter Luongo, director of the Langley Ukulele Ensemble.

“We’re talking about the number one level performance groups in the world, right here representing Langley — it’s a very special night.”

The concert is being held on Oct. 13 at the Peace Portal Alliance Church, 15128 27B Ave. at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at 604-340-UKES (8537) or at www.langleyukes.com.
