Actor leaps into director's seat

In a tag team, husband-wife/director-producer effort, Langley City residents Mike and Cathe Busswood are lowering the curtain on what they call a tremendously successful run of an adult comedy.

The show, A.R. Gurney’s play Sylvia, was brought to the stage this fall by Surrey Little Theatre. It opened in late October and wraps up this Saturday.

It is Mike’s first step into the director’s seat, leading a cast of six in this humour story about a dog – named Sylvia.

“The dog invades the lives of a couple just starting to enjoy life since the children have left home. Through a series of hilarious and touching complications, the dog, Sylvia, becomes more than just a dog to Greg and competition to his wife Kate,” explained Mike, a retired electrician who followed his wife and daughters into community theatre many years ago.

Mike was recently on the SLT stage for the first time in a different role. He played Angus in The Drawer Boy, which earned him the best actor award at Theatre BC’s regional competition.

While Sylvia has been a virtual sellout, Mike said there were rumoured to still be tickets available for Friday. Info: 604-576-8451 or online at: brownpapertickets.com.
