Four local artists are coming together in a spring show full of colour, light and movement.

Linda Muttitt, Gaye Adams, Janice Robertson and Patricia Falck will be showing collections of landscapes in Brushworks Four, an exhibition of new works.

The show is being held at Rasayana Studio on the second floor of the Coulter Berry Building (Suite 240 9220 Glover Rd.) on Friday, May 20 from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Muttitt has been working with watercolour for more than 30 years and is drawn to the luminous, transparent quality of the medium.

Her paintings embody a respect for heritage and nature. Recurring themes in her work include seashores, estuaries, rivers, heritage farmlands and birds. In the past few years, she has found a meaningful connection between her passion for conservation and her painting, donating some of the profits from her work to the very environments she is painting.

Adams has a passion for rendering light — backlight, cast shadows, bounced light — colour, and design, and frequently paints on site. She offers numerous workshops around the world, having recently travelled to California, Croatia and northern B.C.

Robertson’s work largely reflects her love of west coast forests and beaches. Her attachment to her home and garden are represented in her still-life paintings. She works in acrylic, watercolour and oil.

Falck’s art is greatly influenced by nature’s colours. Working with oil paints and larger brushes, she begins laying in a unified composition of shapes and values. She mixes colours on the surface as the painting progresses, and focuses on making every stroke count while striving to maintain a sense of spontaneity and authenticity.
