The works of 22 artists are now hanging in the Fort Gallery, in the newest exhibition entitled Metaphoric Monarch.

The show opened Wednesday, July 20, and will carry through until Aug. 5, with a special open house event (being held in conjunction with the gallery’s monthly First Thursday events) on Aug. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m.

This is a juried exhibit, where three jurors reviewed 62 pieces exploring this year’s theme, and picked 22. They range from two- and three-dimensional and installation works, to paintings, prints, pastels, drawings, punch paper from books, photos, and fibre art.

“For this year’s juried exhibit, we focus on the monarch butterfly as a locus for global metaphors:  metamorphosis, migration, endangerment, etc.,” explained gallery manager Margaret Campbell.

“All these are notions embodied in and associated with the monarch butterfly, but which have further relevance and implications for humanity and the world we live in.”

The gallery invited submissions from artists reflecting on these or other concepts relating to, but not necessarily incorporating, the monarch.

In the meantime, the deadline is set for July 31 for the annual Art Farm retreat.

The day-long workshop is held at the country home of South Langley artist Susan Falk, and is set for Aug. 7.

Info on both the show and workshop at www.fortgallery.ca or by visiting the gallery at 9048 Glover Rd. in Fort Langley.
