The event features winners of the Young Artists Solo Competition and is on Sunday, Jan. 26.
Two talented young Fraser Valley musicians are featured. Chloe Kim, violinist, will play the first movement of the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor.
She began violin studies at age four and over the years has won numerous scholarships and awards from local music festivals including Fraser Valley Kiwanis Festival, the Chilliwack Lions Club Festival, the Coquitlam District Music Festival, and the South Fraser BCRMTA Festival.
Last Spring, she was awarded 1st place in the Senior Strings Category at the Performing Arts BC.
Playing the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano concerto No.1 in C Major will be Abigail Takenaka, pianist who began playing at the age of five. Currently completing her fifth year of study with Dr. Betty Suderman, she also has six years of violin lessons with Dr. Calvin Dyck.
Five years with the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra as a violinist and piano accompanist are included in her list of musical highlights.
Rounding out the program will be the Merry Wives of Windsor overture by Nicolai, and selections from Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgskyâ€.
Celebrating its 30th year, the Fraser Valley Symphony is the premier community orchestra of the region and features musicians from throughout the area.
The concert is at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way in Abbotsford at 3 p.m. Doors open at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $16 adults; $ 13 seniors/students, $ 6 children (12 years and younger).
