From movies and water fights at Al Anderson Memorial Pool to Shakespeare and dancing in Douglas Park, the City of Langley's calendar of summer activities is jam packed with things to do and see in July and August.
On Friday, July 20, the first of three 'Dive-in' movies — Superman— will be screened at the outdoor pool in City Park from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
This one is for local youth, but the second and third films will be animated, family-friendly features — Tangled on Aug. 11 and Chipwrecked on Aug. 18.
If you prefer your movies on dry land, plan stop by Douglas Park on Sunday, July 22 for an outdoor screening of the 1985 classic The Goonies. Show starts at dusk.
Friday nights, check out Dancing in the Park from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Douglas Park. Or stop by on a Wednesday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to take in live music performed on the Spirit Square stage.
Meanwhile, the City Summer Series happens every Tuesday and Thursday during July and August. People of all ages are invited to drop-in between 10 a.m. and noon to play a game of chess or bocce with family and friends, create amazing artwork with chalk, play a game of soccer or badminton, and more. It's free.
Plan to set aside a few hours on Saturday, Aug. 18. That's when Fraser Highway will be closed to traffic as artists and entertainers once again take over the City's downtown core for the annual Arts Alive celebration. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along the Fraser Highway one-way, from 204 Street to 206 Street.
It will feature displays of work by painters, potters, sculptors and jewelry designers, as well as live music and children's activities.

The day will end with a performance of one of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies, Twelfth Night, in Douglas Park, presented by the thespians of Bard in the Valley.
If you're not able catch the show that night, don't worry, the production will run Aug. 9 to 12 and Aug. 16 to 19 on the outdoor Spirit Square Stage in Douglas Park in Langley City. The following week, Aug. 25 and 26, it moves to Willoughby as part of the International Festival in Langley Township, which is held next to the Langley Events Centre.
All evening performances start at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m.
