A Langley City firefighter and author is launching his fourth children’s book this weekend just in time for the holiday season.

Bruce Kilby’s latest book called Olive The Other Reindeer follows the story of Olive, an inexperienced reindeer who is sent out into the Arctic in search of Santa Claus and his team of reindeer after they failed to return to the North Pole after delivering toys on Christmas Eve.

After Olive embarks on the journey, she is joined by a snowy owl named Chloe who helps Olive trace Santa’s route through the north.

The book is a “hilarious” and “dangerous” adventure filled with storms, ghosts, and a wolf pack.

Kilby has been writing books for approximately 20 years and said he started because he wanted to “inspire kids to get back into reading books.”

“I’ve been having fun with the adventures. I always put a lot of humour in the books. I do enjoy it.”

Kilby’s book launch is on Dec. 9 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the NY Grill & Bistro at 20204 Fraser Hwy.

According to Kilby, the book is appropriate for anyone between ages 8 to 80 who enjoy adventure stories.

The book’s illustrator Christine Lee will also accompany Kilby to sign copies.
