Langley choir performs three concerts, welcomes guest group

Langley Community Chorus teams up with Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir for April 26 concert

The Langley Community Chorus will present “Songs We Carry – A Joyful Journey in Song”, a concert on May 3 and 4 in two different Langley neighbourhoods, as well as a show this Saturday with the Vancouver Orpheus Men's Choir.

As people journey through life, many songs accompany them. The chorus will immerse audiences in the music that many will recall from various eras – Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Gordon Lightfoot, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney as well as traditional folk songs, just to name a few.

To round out the concert, choir director Anita Comba and accompanist Barry Yamanouchi will be joined by guest performers Buff Allen on percussion and Timothy Stacey on bass.  Allen has 39 years of professional playing experience in jazz, pop, theatre, recording studios, concert, TV, and movies. Stacey has played with numerous orchestral ensembles, music theatre, choirs, jazz and solo artists. He currently teaches at the Langley Community Music School.

The Langley Community Chorus takes “community” seriously and supports the development of youth. One of their greatest joys each year is to award a blossoming young musician with a scholarship toward their education. This year’s recipient was Kian Gupta from the Langley Community Music School. Kian sang "Sehnsucht nach dem Früling" by Mozart. He recently received his scholarship from Comba.

The Langley Community Chorus not only supports up-and-coming youth but invests in choral communities by building connections and sharing music. In that spirit, they will perform a joint concert with the Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir on Saturday. Formed in 1992 for men of all ages who enjoy singing, Orpheus focuses on popular songs from many times and lands, and under the direction of Liana Savard.

Entitled "For the Joy of Singing, a Choral Concert," this collaborative performance will take place on Saturday, April 26 at 3 p.m. in the Willoughby Christian Reformed Church, 20525 72 Ave. Tickets will be available at the door or online at   vancouverorpheus.org.

The concert called "Songs We Carry – A Joyful Journey in Song" by the Langley Community Chorus will be held on Saturday, May 3, at 3 p.m. at the Walnut Grove Lutheran Church, 20530 88 Ave., and on Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m. in St. Andrew's Anglican Church, 20955 Old Yale Rd. Tickets are available online at langleychorus.org.
