Langley director brings Halloween spoof to life

There’s dirty work afoot at Ye Olde Wayside Inn, Massachusetts. As the home of the eccentric Saltmarshes, Hepzibah Arabella, Cousin Ebenezer, their very strange servant girl Olive, along with decrepit Uncle Silas — the oldest living lunatic in Massachusetts — the Inn is also haunted by the ghost of a soldier who deserted Washington at Valley Forge.

Foul weather makes Cousin Ebenezer grim and dangerous, and he lures victims to the inn to get revenge for a past wrong. So when a storm forces some strangers to take shelter at the Inn, the chilling time begins.

It Was A Dark and Stormy Night, the latest production by the Royal Canadian Theatre Company, runs in October in Surrey, Maple Ridge and Vancouver.

Written by Tim Kelly and directed by award winning artistic director Ellie King of Langley, this hilarious spoof of old Hollywood movies is the perfect way to add in your Halloween fun, and marks RCTC’s tenth year of theatre.

King first directed this play at the former Burr Theatre in New Westminster 15 years ago, and is enjoying bringing the strange inhabitants of Ye Olde Wayside Inn back to life with a new group of talented actors.

This production is suitable for older children (there are slightly scary moments) and adults of any age.
