Local chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists moves to Langley

There’s new group in town.

The Fraser Valley Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists is now calling Langley’s Masonic Hall home.

This active group of artists organizes exhibitions, demonstrations, art workshops, retreats, and more for its 80 or so members who hail from all parts of the Lower Mainland.

The Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) was founded in 1941 by professional Canadian artists including Group of Seven luminaries Lawren Harris (the BC Region’s first Chairman), Arthur Lismer and A.Y. Jackson. Other notable founding members included the legendary Emily Carr. The FCA currently has 2,700 members and 11 volunteer-run Chapters in B.C. and Alberta, and is well-respected for the high standards of artistic excellence established for its members.

The Fraser Valley chapter of this organization was formed in 1992 and is also known as the Fraser Valley Artists. The group holds regular monthly meetings that include a demonstration or talk by a visiting professional artist.

Artists interested in joining the chapter are welcome to attend a meeting at the Masonic Hall, 20701 Fraser Hwy. Upcoming meeting dates are Feb. 10, March 10 and April 14 at 10 a.m.
