Lower Mainland troupe seeks talent

The Vaudevillians are casting about for some new talent.

“The Vaudevillians are a non-profit group of volunteer seniors who have been performing throughout the Lower Mainland since 2002,” said Pat Trimble, with the group.

The Vaudevillians started out as a small group of seniors who enjoyed performing and started drawing in like-minded seniors from around the Lower Mainland, doing shows and benefit events around the region.

They perform Vaudeville, a genre of variety show that was popular from around the 1880s to the 1930s. A Vaudeville show featured different acts covering singing, dance, comedy, magic, juggling and more.

The seniors entertainment troupe have various positions to fill.

It’s looking for an artistic director who would oversee the 2016, rehearse the troups and write and cast the 2017 show.

An emcee is needed to introduce numbers and tell jokes. The person must be able to connect with audiences.

Someone with some knowledge about sound is needed for run the sound system. Training is possible.

The group is also looking for a backstage manager to organize all backstage details and stage set up, and oversee the cast.

There’s also openings for performers – singers, dancers or comedians. People can attend rehearsals to see if joining would interest them and then audition for the cast.

“These are volunteer positions with the exception of the artistic director who is eligible for an honorarium annually,” Trimble explained.
