For 15 years now, the best amateur photographers throughout the Lower Mainland – from West Vancouver to Chilliwack – have converged on Fort Langley for the Fraser Valley Invitational.
This year is no exception, with upwards of 250 people likely to turn out for the competition on Saturday, May 10.
This year, the theme of the photographs is industrial, and each of the 150 pictures that have been shortlisted depict an array of different interpretations on that theme, said Dennis Ducklow, a Langley shooter and past president of the host Langley Camera Club.
Starting at 7:30 p.m., the public will view, along with the judges, each entry as it’s displayed on screen.
At the end, the club with the highest accumulated score, as well as the photographers with the top three images of the night, will be recognized.
While the digital competition between 15 different clubs (each enter their group’s best 10 images) has been backbone of the invitational, Ducklow said the event also features a series of photography vendors including Ducklow’s booth for the Canadian Association of Photographic Arts (CAPA), as well as a slideshow of pictures that didn’t make the cut, and an exhibition of works from members of the Langley Camera Club.
Admission to the invitational is $20 at the door, and the event is being held in the Chief Sepass Theatre, 9096 Trattle St. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show at 7:30 p.m.
