Works by students, films up for major international awards, and cast and crew from River Blue are some of the special events at the Langley International Film Festival.
The second annual LIFF has Robert French, the director, producer and cast of River Blue for the opening night gala March 3. The movie starts at 7 p.m. with a post-screening gala. It’s about the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
“It’s really an exciting experience, learning how the film was made,” said Susan Cairns, the Langley School District Foundation executive director.
LIFF is a fundraiser for the foundation, a charity that provides extra support to local public schools, ranging from technology to food. The LIFF proceeds are earmarked for arts and film programs in the district.
Saturday features a montage of student films at 1 p.m., The Eagle Huntress at 3:30 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. showing of the film Manchester by the Sea. Its award nominations include Oscars, Golden Globes, and more.
The festival continues Sunday with Annette Benning in 20th Century Women at 1 p.m. and Captain Fantastic at 3 p.m. Both have been nominated for Oscars and Golden Globe awards.
