One of Canada’s elite pianists, Bruce Vogt, will open the Rose Gellert Hall concert season this Saturday, Oct. 15, with his interpretations of Liszt’s masterpieces in his program, titled Portrait of Franz Liszt – Spiritual Visions.
“On the occasion of Liszt’s 200th birthday we are delighted to present a solo piano programme of music exclusively by this inspiring musician,” said Elizabeth Bergmann, artistic director for LCMS.
Liszt was truly a consummate artist who had a profound impact on composers and musicians who followed him, Bergmann continued.
“Not only was he one of the greatest piano virtuosos whose career took on rock star dimensions but was also an incredible arranger and improviser,” she said.
“In his compositions Liszt looked far beyond the traditional musical language and created a musical palette of sounds and effects for the piano that were to become the inspiration for future composers.
“The visionary quality of his late pieces reached far into the next century,” said Bergmann.
Vogt appears regularly in concert within Canada, but has also performed in England, the USA, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Bulgaria, China, and Japan.
Vogt’s diverse repertoire encompasses music from the 16th century to the present.
He has consistently championed the music of contemporary composers, and has commissioned and premiered a number of new works by such Canadian luminaries as Murray Adaskin and Alfred Fisher.
Season subscriptions are available at 15 per cent off regular ticket prices. Rose Gellert Hall subscriptions are $82 adults, $73 seniors, and $58 students.
Regular tickets are $22 adults, $20 seniors, and $16 students.
