VIDEO: Langley’s Dallas Smith becomes first Canadian male country artist with four No. 1 singles

Song “Sky Stays This Blue” is third No.1 single off album “Side Effects”

Langley country singer Dallas Smith has a lot to celebrate these days.

The Walnut Grove native just became the first Canadian male country artist to have four No. 1 singles when Sky Stays This Blue topped both the Nielsen BDS and Mediabase Country radio charts in Canada last week.

With that song, he is also the first Canadian artist to have three consecutive No. 1 singles, and the first Canadian male country artist to have three back-to-back No.1 singles from the same album.

“Thank you so much to Canadian Country radio and all of my fans here at home,” Smith said.

“The continued support is something that I don’t take for granted and something that will never be lost on both my family and I. The quality of country music that Canada is producing right now is something we as a whole should be enormously proud of.”

Smith, who is the former lead singer of rock band Default, first entered the country music scene with album Jumped Right In in 2012.

In that time he’s released three albums, including his latest, Side Effects, which was produced by Joey Moi of band Florida Georgia Line and released in 2016. That album’s first No. 1 song, Autograph, was the only No. 1 track from a Canadian country artist in 2016. The song Side Effects was his second No. 1 off that record, followed by Sky Stays This Blue.

Sky Stays This Blue celebrates Smith’s relationship with his 3-year-old daughter, Vayda, and on Father’s Day, he shared a personal home movie as the video premiere for the song.

“This video means everything to me,” said Smith, who is a father of two.

“Vayda is going to have this memory for the rest of her life as a reminder of how much she’s loved and I will cherish the moments we captured forever.”

AWARD NOMINATIONS

Smith is nominated for four Canadian Country Music Association Awards (CCMA) including Male Artist of the Year, Single of the Year, Album of the Year and the Apple Music Fans’ Choice Award.

The CCMA Awards show will take place on Sept. 10 in Saskatoon, Sask., and will air on CBC featuring a number musical performances, including Smith.

Other Langley talents nominated this year include Mitch Merrett for Producer of the Year and Aldergrove’s Scott Cooke for Producer of the Year (Aaron Pritchett and Chad Brownlee).

NEW TOUR

In addition to award and milestone announcements, Smith also recently released dates for his new tour, Side Effects, which comes to Abbotsford for one performance on Nov. 18. Click here for more info.
