Who needs Miss Universe?

Nobody – not when North Delta’s Melanie Reich brings you Miss Cosmos:
The 53rd Annual Intergalactic Space Bride Competition.

In an age of reality TV and makeover programs where public opinion defines one’s identity, what hope is there for all of the conventionally untalented and unpopular creatures who seek fame?

Fail, lose, die or change – those are the options for the contestants of Miss Cosmos: The 53rd Annual Intergalactic Space Bride Competition.

Completely dependent on audience votes, these refugee aliens must decide between their true identities and their survival at this year’s Vancouver Fringe Festival (VFF).

That’s where you come in – to help cast your vote for your favourite space bride in this Bright Young Theatre production.

It’s the brainchild North Delta’s Melanie Reich, a UBC Fine Arts in Acting graduate and cohorts Christine Bortolin (Burnaby), Joanna Williams and Ashley Noyes (Langley), and Jordan Krebs (Kirkland, Wash.)

Bright Young Theatre created and produced the show as part of the VFF’s Onsite Mentoring Program.

All ages are encouraged to participate in choosing their favourite cosmic bachelorette.

The winner will earn the right to continue her existence on Earth, as an honorary human being. The unfortunate losers will be jettisoned into space.

Bright Young Theatre production of Miss Cosmos will take place nightly at 8:20 p.m., rain or shine, from Sept. 7 to 16 a the Granville Island playground, near the water park. Tickets are $12. Visit the Festival box office or visit www.vancouverfringe.com
