Longtime Langley boxing coach and promoter Dave Allison is throwing his hat into a different kind of ring – he’s running for Langley City council.

A former trucking company owner, Allison was forced into early retirement by complications from a youthful injury.

Since then he’s been well known for coaching boxers at Revolution Gym and organizing local boxing matches, most under the name Clash at the Cascades.

Allison is a longtime resident of the Langley Lions Housing Society complex in the City.

He said he’s not running against the current council, but believes he could add a perspective that isn’t at the table right now.

His issues are about the downtown core, and day to day life as it’s lived by people in the Lions housing and the nearby neighbourhood.

He’s also very concerned about homelessness.

“I remember when I moved here there was no homeless people in Langley,” Allison said, calling the current situation “heartbreaking.”

He’s also looking to the city’s future as it sits between the fast-growing much-larger Langley Township and Surrey.

“We’re going to be at the centre of a big city forming around us,” he said.
