Langley firefighters are taking part in a number of events around the community as Christmas approaches.

On Dec. 23, paid-call firefighters from Hall 6 in Murrayville will help Santa Claus hand out candy canes, and collect donations for the Langley Food Bank, in the area around the hall.

They will travel a route that includes both sides of Fraser Highway, starting at 10 a.m., and will begin by singing Christmas songs and heading down 223rd Street.

Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted.

Firefighters and Santa were also out on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Brookswood around 200th Street and 44th Avenue.

And earlier this week, the Langley City On Call Firefighter Association presented a cheque for $1,500 to the Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society.
