Editor:

Dear Editor,

In a few weeks, the first ever museum dedicated to Langley Memorial Hospital will open in Michaud House.

The museum is the brainchild of the LMH heritage committee in partnership with the Langley Heritage Society, which manages Michaud House.

A committee of volunteers is busy collecting and displaying the artifacts and memorabilia that will be exhibited in Michaud House, a heritage building at the foot of 204th Street, south of 53rd Avenue, in Langley City.

We are keen to collect any items that your readers may have tucked away, and which they would be willing to donate to the museum.

We could also use a little help elsewhere: We are looking for a mannequin to display a nurse’s uniform.

We also need a jewelry display case, and a bookshelf that is 60 inches tall, 17 inches wide, and 18 inches deep.

In order to maximize our exposure, we are asking the City to erect directional signs that will point visitors to the LMH archives in Michaud House.

We would also like to have a single sign that will hang outside Michaud House during the hours that we are open to the public. To this end, we wonder if there is someone in the community who would make a sign for us – preferably designed to reflect the tone of the museum.

If any of your readers can help, we would like to hear from them.

They can contact either Doris Riedweg, at 604-534-3384 or do_ried@telus.net. Alternately, they can contact Kate Ludlam of the LMH Foundation at 604-514-6043, or at kate.ludlam@fraserhealth.ca.

The official opening of the museum is July 15, which marks the 70th anniversary of the day the first forms were laid for the first Langley Memorial Hospital – then called the Cottage Hospital.

Doris Riedweg and Kate Ludlam, Langley
