Letter: Langley Township already has a workable plan in place for Brookswood/Fernridge

The 1987 plan at least provides certainty for property owners, a letter writer argues.

Re: Brookswood-Fernridge Public Hearing #2 to be held at George Preston Rec. Centre at 6 p.m. on Sept. 12, 2017.

Like many have said, this second go-around process of the inferior 2017 Brookswood-Fernridge Community Plan is flawed.

Why are certain members of council trying to force the 2017 plan through, in spite of having already voted it down 5-4?

If the 2017 plan was so good, why did they need to debate no less than 28 amendments of which 15 were adopted?

You can be sure there will be quite a few more patched-up amendments attempted when they next debate this plan.

Public opposition to the deficient and fragmented 2017 plan appears to be growing. Why not just deep-six it?

The land use in the 1987 plan is better anyway, with larger lots and more area for single family homes.

The 2017 plan defers much of the land use issues to future unknown Neighbourhood Plans which will have small lot cluster housing with parking problems.

For many of us residents in the undeveloped Fernridge areas, the 2017 plan renders the future use of our land as uncertain.

Will this be your land that is sacrificed for compact development just because you have trees on it?

With the 1987 plan, we know what we will get. It’s more definitive and clear.

We have the Phase 1 successful Cedar Ridge 300 lot example and the recent completely updated (7,000 sq. ft. lot) subdivision examples.

Retaining the 1987 plan will effectively restore the shaken stability and confidence to the existing property owners in the community.
