The Tzu Chi Foundation brought lion dancing and martial arts demonstrations to the seniors in Langley Memorial Hospital’s Maple Hill seniors facility.
Tzu Chi, a Buddhist group devoted to compassion and charitable work, has been a longtime donor to the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation, said the foundation’s communications manager Terra Scheer.
Though they’ve been raising money for the hospital for some time, the local Tzu Chi members wanted to do something for the residents of the long term care facility.
Marie Wu, who acted as the MC for the performances, said they began with the lion dance, which is intended to drive away evil spirits.
Members of the Tzu Chi Foundation also performed a song with sign language, a Japanese folk dance to mark the season of cherry blossoms, and a martial arts demonstration.
