OUR VIEW: Love must trump hate

In this week’s editorial, we push the need for acceptance and love over anger, fear, and hate.

Between the defacing of the new rainbow crosswalk in Fort Langley, and the anti-SOGI group going before the Langley school board on Tuesday, we can see there is still a lot of work to be done to foster tolerance, acceptance, and love in Langley these days.

It’s sad, but it is a reality that people must fight for tolerance. Thanks to those taking up the charge.

To see how emotionally raw this debate still is for many people, just take a look at the feedback we’re receiving to both of these stories on Facebook.

The diversity of views, in this day and age, is still vast.

The debate that’s raging is not just about the LGBTQ community, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or special rights for any minority groups.

It’s about breaking down people’s fears with education.

It is about equal rights for all. It’s about inclusion, acceptance, and ensuring people are safe.

It is about realizing that there are many, many different types of people in our world, in our community, and in our lives.

It’s not our differences that should divide us, but rather our love and acceptance of good people that should unite us.

Don’t let hate win.

This starts with just one person – you.

Stand up, speak out, and demand nothing less than acceptance from all the people in your direct circle.

Consider showing your support in whatever way you personally can muster, towards those who are struggles with adversity in Langley.

Then make a conscious effort to help spread a positive message of tolerance, inclusion, and love – I’ve got to believe that goodness can and will prevail.
