Last week’s photo showed a horse and wagon crossing the old Salmon River Bridge early in the 20th century.

The contest winner was Amandeep Johal with this caption:

“A 1904 photo of two of the many farmers who assisted in the tracking and capture the giant, elusive, Willoughby Chicken. After plenty seasons of suffering the damage to their own crops by the scratching techniques of this fowl monstrosity, they Township finally declared war on the avian beast. The decision to capture, rather than kill-on-site was accepted by the majority, in understanding that the Willoughby Chicken could then be sold to a travelling circus and bring fame upon the community and the captors. Sadly the plan was proven fruitless, as the Chicken was never seen again. Some say it migrated southwards, others say hibernation. Yet to this day, the legend lives on.”
