The AHL and FloSports announced a multi-year partnership on Thursday (Sept. 12).

The new streaming home of Abbotsford Canucks and the rest of the American Hockey League is now the FloSports platform.

The multi-year agreement was announced on Thursday (Sept. 12), with the games of all 32 AHL teams becoming a part of FloSports significant sports streaming network.

FloSports and the AHL have had a relationship for nearly two decades, as Flo's LeagueStat system has been used by the AHL since 2005. The two have also partnered on website and mobile app hosting since 2009. The AHL's former streaming service, which was known as AHLTV, was also managed by FloSports since 2018.

The move to FloSports will feature an enhanced viewing experience for fans with state-of-the-art encoders provided by FloSports to every AHL team, doubling the rate of high-quality streams to 60 frames per second.

"We are excited to extend and expand our long-standing relationship with FloSports,” stated Scott Howson, president and CEO of the AHL. “AHLTV continues to exceed our goals in providing our fans with the best possible user experience. And as technology advances and improves, we are fortunate to have FloSports’ expertise in streaming, web hosting and real-time data collection to keep that highest level of service across all of our platforms.”

But the new partnership does not come without some additional costs. FloHockey subscriptions come at a cost of $39.99 CAD per month or an annual plan is $203.88 CAD. In the past, AHLTV gave users several options including the ability to subscribe to one team or just home or away games for a lower cost.

An AHLTV user last year who wanted to watch everything would have been charged about $142. Fees were also significantly lower for one team, with the cost to subscribe to one team for the regular season costing about $61. Monthly and daily options were also available on AHLTV.

However, a FloSports subscription also gives users access to the ECHL, SPHL, the entire CJHL (including the BCHL), US College and other Canadian junior leagues like the PJHL. For hockey fans in the Fraser Valley it means that if they subscribe they could view games for the Abbotsford Pilots, Chilliwack Chiefs, Chilliwack Jets and Mission City Outlaws through the network.

In addition, a subscription gives you the ability to watch 25 other different sports, including motorsports, wrestling, track and field and more. FloSports streams about 24,000 live events every year.

The News has also learned that all AHL season ticket members will receive a full FloHockey comp for this season. In the past, Abbotsford Canucks season ticket members did receive streaming capabilities to all of the team's away games as a benefit. Season ticket members will also have the ability to access all that FloSports has to offer.

“AHLTV moving to FloHockey represents a seismic shift in the professional hockey media landscape that will exponentially grow the American Hockey League’s reach and footprint, while solidifying FloHockey as the ultimate home for hockey with access to virtually all teams in the NHL’s development system,” stated Josh Siskin, FloSports GM of FloHockey. “The AHL has built a great product for fans both on and off the ice, and this partnership will help push both the AHL and FloHockey to new heights.”

Games are available at FloHockey.tv, as well as through the FloSports app and connected devices such as Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast. For more information, visit theahl.com/ahl-flosports-partnership-extension.
