The aftermath of a flatbed truck knocking down three Canada Post community mailboxes during a theft last week. To deter thieves, mailboxes should be emptied daily by Canada Post customers, writes Laurie Coelho. Dan Ferguson Langley Times file photo

Editor: Re: Community mailboxes stolen off foundations in south Langley (the Times, Dec. 1).

Regardless of the type/quality of the bolts Dallas Burns reported Canada Post to have used to anchor their community mailboxes, the thieves should have found their efforts fruitless as they should have discovered ‘all’ compartments to be empty.

These community mailboxes were not designed to act as vaults, storage boxes, or safety deposit boxes. They should be emptied daily by the customers.

We all have a responsibility in preventing crime.
