Aldergrove arena comes crashing down: VIDEO

Demolition crews make quick work of leveling 45 year old ice rink

Demolition crews made quick work of tearing down the decommissioned 45 year old Aldergrove Community Ice Arena Monday morning, Dec. 17, 2018.

With the new arena that opened earlier this year at the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre, the former ice arena property is being cleared for re-development, likely as housing.

The Township has also purchased the Milseán Shoppe property immediately to the north of the former arena site on 272nd Street.

Milseán Shoppe founding owners Rob and Maureen Robinson are closing their storefront and tea house this Saturday, Dec. 22, after 16 years of operation in the former Aldergrove Fire Hall.

The couple are retiring, although they will maintain their residence and confectionery manufacturing facility in the building until March 2019 when the Township takes possession of the property.

The couple have been making their famous demerara toffee sweets since 1992, first at their previous residence in south Aldergrove, before relocating in the renovated fire hall building in 2002.

The Township has not yet disclosed its proposed plans for the former Milseán/fire hall building and property.
