Work begins May 29 on the 216th Street interchange.

The Township has sent out notice that road closures begin Monday at 83rd Avenue and 216th Street to allow work to begin.

The interchange will connect 216th Street with Highway 1, and is m0ving ahead despite some public opposition.

According to the provincial government, “Construction will begin on the east side of 216th Street, with the interchange being constructed first. Once the interchange is underway, highway lane widening will begin and move west toward 200th Street. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2019.”

Over the next three months the work is expected to include:

• Clearing on the north and south sides of the highway at 216th Street to construct the interchange ramps,

• Forming the 5.0 metre noise berm located between 214A Street and 216 th Street,

• Constructing the new access road to the mushroom farm property on 216th Street,

• Working with utility owners to relocate shallow utilities for gas, electric, cable and water, and

• Preparing highway lane widening in the centre median.

The Township is recommending people detour to 80th Avenue and 211th Streets.
