Fort Langley residents will gather for a town hall meeting about protective services, covering everything from policing, to firefighting, to helping the homeless.
Organized by the Fort Langley Community Association, the doors will open 7 p.m. Monday, April 8, at the community hall on Glover Road, with the event starting at 7:30 p.m.
The speakers include Block Watch coordinator Yvan Salloomi, Gregg Davenport of Wagner Hills recovery centre, Christina Schneiter, the residential services manager of the Gateway of Hope shelter, Const. Phil Colter, a Langley RCMP community liaison officer, and Captain Krista Barton of the Township of Langley Fire Department.
“We try to do a town hall meeting once a year,” said the society’s Andy Schildhorn.
Last year, it was about mosquitoes, which had been extremely numerous the previous summer, and the association has also held all-candidate meetings in election years. The last time they did a Block Watch meeting was in 2018, Schildhorn noted.
“Time we do it again,” he said.
The event is about all types of public safety, from crime to wildfires, Schildhorn said. Representatives of Wagner Hills and the Gateway of Hope will be on hand to talk about their services.
The event will wrap up by 9 p.m. that evening, Schildhorn said.

There is no cost to attend and no tickets are needed in advance.
“Just come to the door,” said Schildhorn.
