The federal election has been called for Monday, April 28, a chance for local residents to decide who represents them in Parliament.
Federal ridings have been amended since the last federal election.
Aldergrove is now part of the Abbotsford-South Langley riding, while North Aldergrove and the Glen Valley area are now part of the new Langley Township-Fraser Heights riding. The Cloverdale-Langley City riding is the only one of three Langley ridings that didn’t experience significant boundary changes.
The NDP’s Holly Isaac is running in Langley Township-Fraser Heights. Incumbent MP Tako van Popta is the Conservative candidate. Alex Joehl is the Libertarian candidate, while Justin Cawker is running for the People’s Party of Canada. And, Debora Soutar is the Green Party of Canada candidate for that riding.
Sukhman Singh Gill is the Conservative candidate in Abbotsford-South Langley. The NDP candidate is Dharmasena Yakandawela. Carlos Suarez Rubio is the People’s Party of Canada candidate.
The Cloverdale-Langley City riding has Vanessa Sharma running for the NDP, while incumbent MP Tamara Jansen (just elected in a by-election in December) is the Conservative candidate. Jim McMurtry is the People’s Party candidate. The Green candidate is Daniel Davis.
Currently there were no Liberal candidates in local ridings.
Advance polls are Friday to Monday, April 18 to 21. There are also opportunities to obtain special voting ballots which can be mailed in or taken to an Elections Canada polling station.
