Two loop ramps onto Highway #1 at Aldergrove's 264 Street interchange will be closing permanently, as of March 22, as interchange upgrade work begins.
The northeast and southwest loop ramps are shutting down as part of the construction work, according to an announcement from the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
Drivers heading north on 264 Street to Highway #1 – travelling westbound toward Langley and Vancouver – will be redirected to turn left at an improved intersection on the north side of the interchange.
Drivers heading south on 264 Street – heading to Highway #1 eastbound towards Abbotsford and Hope – will, likewise, turn left at an improved intersection.
The construction work is part of the Fraser Valley Highway #1 Corridor Improvement Program, which has been moving eastward through Langley, and which will eventually head out all the way through Abbotsford and the Sumas Prairie area.
As part of the project, the highway will be widened with an HOV lane in each direction, and old overpasses are being replaced.
The Glover Road overpass in Langley, once the site of numerous truck impacts because it was lower than overpasses to the west, was fully replaced last year. Work on replacing the 232 Street overpass began in 2024.
With the 232 Street overpass coming down, the 264 Street overpass is the last remaining interchange in the Lower Mainland that dates all the way back to the construction of the Trans-Canada Highway in the 1960s.
It's also the site of numerous collisions, and is one of the highest-crash incident locations in B.C., according to ICBC statistics.
