Ian Kennedy is the PPC candidate for the Cloverdale-Langley City byelection.

The People's Party of Canada candidate in the Cloverdale-Langley City byelection will be a familiar name to local voters.

Ian Kennedy is running for this third time in the riding, having represented the PPC in 2019 and 2021 elections.

"It is past time we brought individual freedom, personal responsibility, fairness and respect to Ottawa," Kennedy said on X after he was confirmed as the party's candidate. "I have done my best to live by these words throughout my life, especially after the PPC was formed."

In the 2021 election, Kennedy received 4.8 per cent of the vote.

Led by former Conservative MP and cabinet minister Maxime Bernier, the PPC is a small right-wing party. It has not elected any MPs since its formation.

Kennedy's election site said he is a supervisor of a store in an industrial setting. He said the PPC aims to support all Canadians "instead of pandering to special groups."

Also running are Madison Fleischer for the Liberal Party, Tamara Jansen for the Conservative Party, Alex Joehl for the Libertarian Party, Patrick McCutcheon for the Green Party, and Vanessa Sharma for the NDP.

The vote will be held on Monday, Dec. 16.

The byelection was sparked by the resignation of Liberal MP John Aldag, who then ran unsuccessfully as an NDP candidate in the October provincial election in the Langley-Aldergrove riding.
