Vehicle batters Langley hobby store in failed robbery

One man is in custody and facing charges

One man is in custody facing charges after an attempted smash-and-grab robbery in north Langley was interrupted by the arrival of RCMP officers last week.

Just before 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, police received a call about a break and enter in progress in the 9600 block of 201 Street, said Cpl. Craig van Herk, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.

Someone had used a vehicle to batter down the door to Wiser's Wide World of Collectibles, causing considerable damage to the front of the cinderblock industrial building.

When officers arrived, they spotted a man leaving the store. He made a run for it, dropping a "bag of loot," but officers caught up with him and arrested him.

Van Herk said police also found the vehicle that had been used to smash into the store. It had been stolen earlier in Chilliwack.

A 39-year-old Langley man, who is known to police, is in custody and has been charged with break and enter, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Police did not release details on what he stole from the store.

Wisers remained open in the aftermath of the attack, but staff declined to comment.
