The Aldergrove Kodiaks got off to a promising start against the visiting Richmond Sockeyes on Wednesday night, but despite outplaying the Sockeyes most of the game the Sockeyes pulled out three goals in the third period for a 5-2 victory.

The Sockeyes were up 1-0 early in the first period but Kodiak Paulvir Dosanjh slipped a beauty of a pass from Lucas Thompson and Hayden Vetterl right through Jeremy Kelleway’s five-hole to even it up at 1-1.

Kodiak Tyler Cannon scored the 2-1 lead late in the second period but the Sockeyes evened it up in the final minute of the period. Cannon earned the game’s third star for his work and his assist came from Justin Ralph.

However, the third period saw the Sockeyes fire three more, starting with the game’s first power play, to take the win.

The Kodiaks outshot the Sockeyes 34-32, and were unable to score on four power plays.

The result leaves the Kodiaks at 14 points after 18 games.

The Kodiaks have a busy weekend ahead, starting with an away game Thursday at Surrey Knights, then returning home to the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre on Saturday, Nov. 3, 7:15 p.m. to host the Langley Trappers. On Sunday, Nov. 4 the Kodiaks travel to Burnaby Winter Club for a 7:15 p.m. against the Grandview Steelers.

Next home game is Wednesday, Nov. 7, 7:15 p.m. when the Kodiaks host the Delta Ice Hawks.
