Aldergrove Kodiaks take three wins in a row

Aldergrove Junior B hockey team back on track, improve standing to 20 points

The Aldergrove Kodiaks had a busy week, with four games in five nights, but they improved their record with three straight wins to make it 20 points in 21 games this season (10 wins, 11 losses).

The Kodiaks came away with a 6-3 away win over the Grandview Steelers on Sunday, following a 5-6 overtime win over the Langley Trappers on Saturday at the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre.

Earlier in the week the Kodiaks defeated the Surrey Knights 5-3 in an away game Thursday, following the 2-5 loss to the Richmond Sockeyes at home on Wednesday.

Kodiaks Sydney Lee, Clayton Schroeder and Jordan Desrosiers were the game stars in Sunday’s tilt at Burnaby Winter Club.

Kodiak Mathieu Melanson scored the opening goal on a power play in the first period, assisted by Schroeder and Nate Castonguay. Kodiak Paulvir Dosanjh scored the second period’s only goal, assisted by Desrosiers and Lee.

The Steelers briefly took a 3-2 lead in the third period, before Schroeder, Lee, Lucas Thompson and Davin Padgham scored four more for the win.

The Kodiaks outshot the Steelers 39-32.

In Saturday’s game against the Trappers, Kodiaks Desrosiers and Padgham were the game’s first two stars for their contributions to a close game.

The Kodiaks took a 4-1 lead over the first two periods before the Trappers scored four more in the third to even it at 5-5. Padgham scored the overtime winner on a power play for the win.

Scoring for Aldergrove that night were Thompson, Ty Pickering, Desrosiers, Padgham (2), and Lee.

The Trappers outshot the Kodiaks in the first and third periods for a game total of 44-38, but the Kodiaks scored twice on nine power plays while successfully killing seven penalties of their own.

The Surrey Knights took an early 2-1 lead in the first period Thursday at North Surrey Rec Centre, but the Kodiaks took it back early in the second in a 5-3 win for the Kodiaks.

Kodiak Davin Padgham scored the game’s first goal, assisted by Melanson and Castonguay.

Kodiaks DJ Horne, Castonguay and Justin Ralph (on a power play) scored in the second period for a 4-3 lead, and Ralph scored another in the third period, again on the power play, for the 5-3 win.

Ralph and Castonguay were the game’s first two stars.

The Kodiaks outshot the Knights 50-31 that night and scored on two of eight power plays, while successfully killing six penalties of their own.

The Kodiaks host the Delta Ice Hawks on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 7:15 p.m. at Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre.
