Aldergrove Totems start season with win

High school basketball tournament sees Aldergrove defeat DW Poppy

The Aldergrove Totems kicked off the 2018/19 season with a 68-56 win vs DW Poppy in game one of the Poppy Tournament.

Totems and Redhawks battled all first quarter long with back and forth baskets. Led by grade 11 guard Jessiah Lomas (7 pts., 3 reb.) the Totems were able to keep pace with Poppy. Poppy led 18-16 after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Totems outscore Poppy 22-4. The stingy Totems’ defence created 20 steals in the game and never looked back after going into halftime. Grade 11 forward Bryan Tran (6 pts., 15 reb., 7 stl.) helped lead the team to a 38-22 score at halftime.

The second half saw grade 11 forward Jacob Kautzman (8 pts., 4 reb.) and grade 10 guard/forward U’Shaun Campbell (34 pts., 4 reb., 5 stl.) lead the Totems to a convincing 68-56 win. Campbell was the Totem of the Tournament.

Final results were ACSS 68 (16-22-14-16); DW Poppy 56 (18-4-19-15).
