East Langley Totems got on the win sheet with a convincing 67-50 over Westview Wildcats in preseason action, Nov. 23.
After a sluggish start by both teams and with both teams committing silly, early season, lazy fouls, the offence for both teams finally got the ball rolling midway through the first quarter.
Grade 10 point guard Koal Popoff (8 pts.) got the game started with two big threes to get the offence rolling. Westview carried a 20-17 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was back and forth with both teams trading baskets all quarter long. Grade 11 guard Nick Murray (19 pts., 7 stl., 4 ast.) helped keep the Totems close. Westview went into half with a 35-29 lead.
The second half was all Totems for the third and fourth quarters. Grade 12 forward Liam Bishop (20 pts., 2 reb.) took over in the low post and was able to manhandle his way to basket after basket down low.
Totems outscored the Wildcats 20-11 in the third quarter to take a 49-46 lead.
TheTotems never looked back in the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Totems oustscore the Wildcats 18-4 in the final ten minutes. Grade 10 forward/guard U’Shaun Campbell (10 pts., 6 ast.) helped the Totems close out the game.
Totems outscored Westview 38-15 in the second half to take a 67-50 win.
Final results: East Langley Totems 67 (17-12-20-18); Westview 50 (20-15-11-4).
The 2018/19 Varsity Aldergrove Totems season get underway Monday Nov. 26.
Totems start the season with the DW Poppy Varsity tournament Friday, Nov. 30 to Saturday, Dec. 1. Totems’ games are scheduled for Friday 3:30 p.m. vs DW Poppy, Saturday 1:30 p.m. vs Samuel Roberston Tech and 4:50 p.m. vs Credo Christian.
