Is there any better way to celebrate summer than a Pick-up Picnic from a local purveyor?
We don’t think so, and neither does the team at the Downtown Langley Business Association!
With the overwhelming response to last summer’s Pick-Up Picnics program, Downtown Langley is thrilled to welcome the program back, connecting diners with local restaurants, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 15. Originally created as a COVID-friendly alternative to the popular Fork & Finger event, the idea resonated with locals.
“Our community really showed up to support local restaurants and enjoy the beautiful outdoor spaces in downtown Langley,” says Teri James, executive director of the DowntownLangley Business Association. “The secret is out that there are incredible restaurants located in downtown Langley, and Pick-Up Picnics offer a really fun way to support your favourite restaurant or to try something new.”
The supportive community of residents, visitors, business owners and property owners that together create this vibrant neighbourhood was even more apparent during the pandemic, as everyone rallied around the businesses.
“Most of the businesses located within our BIA are small and locally owned, and over the past year, not one has closed their doors as a direct result of the pandemic – that says a lot about the people who live here and in the neighbouring communities who choose to support local,” James says.
Here’s how it works:
- Between noon and 5pm, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, visit downtownlangley.com/events/pick-up-picnics to select the restaurant you want to try. With such a wide variety of restaurants participating, you’ll find a wide range of pricing and meal sizes.
- Choose either a Pick-Up Picnic for 1 person or a Pick-Up Picnic for 2 people, to make it even easier to enjoy your meal individually or with others.
- Pick up your picnic and look in the bag for a map to Langley’s beautiful outdoor spaces. You might even find a pop-up, live music performance to enjoy while you eat!
And in case delicious local food isn’t enough incentive to indulge in a Pick-Up Picnic, the association and presenting sponsor Envision Financial have sweetened the deal.
Envision has provided a gift for every picnic package, and with a variety of items on offer, you could get something new every time you enjoy a Pick-Up Picnic.
In addition, for every Pick-Up Picnic package distributed, Envision Financial will donate $5 to The Full Cupboard, benefiting Sources Langley Food Bank. Doubling the impact, Downtown Langley Business Association is matching the donation, so, for every Pick-Up Picnic ordered, $10 will go to Sources Langley Food Bank!
