Planning a reno? Put the waiting to good use!

Sometimes a little waiting is a good thing – especially when it gives time to get just what you want

When you’re planning a home renovation, good things take time. What’s important is how you use that time, says Stephen Tomes, owner of Kingsmere Construction and New Trendz Flooring and More in Langley.

We get it – no one likes to wait. Whether you’re in line for a restaurant table, counting down the days until Christmas or, yes, eagerly awaiting that new kitchen or bathroom, the wait is NOT part of the fun.

But what if it COULD be? Not only enjoyable but functional, in fact.

The truth is, when you’re planning a home renovation, good things take time, says Stephen Tomes, owner of Kingsmere Construction and New Trendz Flooring and More in Langley.

What’s important is how you use that time.

How long?

Most home renovations will take between eight weeks and six months for proper planning and permitting, depending on the scope of the project, Tomes says.

Because many home renovations require municipal permits – projects involving electrical, plumbing, additions, etc. – it’s important for homeowners to understand that there’s no way to rush the process.

The good news is that by hiring a qualified, design-build team to complete the renovation, they can look after all those challenges for you, leaving you time for the fun part: planning the finishing details – the flooring, fixtures, cabinets, paint colours and all those other details that will make your new-to-you house a home!

“Because we have an in-house design team, in addition to the construction expertise, we can do all the pre-construction work for you, including drawing up the designs and securing permitting,” Tomes says. “We’ll look after those ‘headaches’ and you can have all the fun.”

Working with an established company can also ensure the required steps are taken promptly, avoiding unexpected or unnecessary delays, Tomes says. And because they’ll typically have an established roster of construction professionals and trades relationships, additional delays will be mitigated.

Now, the fun part!

With the myriad decisions that must be made in any renovation, from the cabinet colour to the flooring material to the finish of your drawer knobs, this “wait” offers the valuable time you need. At New Trendz, where you’ll find demonstration kitchens, bathrooms and other essential spaces, you can browse the array of possibilities for every room, then allow time for your selected favourites to arrive.

Information and inspiration for your project awaits!
