Join the New Trendz Flooring and More team for a Ladies’ Night at the store Nov. 15 – a chance to learn about the ins and outs of a home renovation in a casual setting while enjoying refreshments and appetizers.

If you’ve ever undertaken a home renovation – big or small – the numerous choices to consider and decisions to make can seem overwhelming. Even if it’s been a few years since you’ve tackled a project, the renovation and home improvement landscape has likely changed a lot!

An internet or Pinterest search likely offers some gorgeous possibilities, but will the results work for your home and your family’s unique needs?

Before investing time and money into products or projects, it’s important to know exactly what you’re dealing with – in your own home, and the improvements you’re considering. After all, there’s a reason those cork floors and ceramic tile counters that we all the rage a decade or two ago aren’t seen today!

It’s with all that in mind that Langley contractor Stephen Tomes and his team at New Trendz Flooring and More are hosting his first “Ladies’ Night” at the New Trendz showroom.

Beyond a space to feature flooring options, New Trendz features “rooms” designed to showcase a variety of selections, from cabinetry and counters to flooring and technology like their innovative under-floor heating system.

The inaugural Ladies’ Night event runs this week – Tuesday, Nov. 15 – but they’re planning to host the evenings quarterly, based on the welcome reception this first session has received, says Tomes, a licensed contractor and owner of Kingsmere Construction and New Trendz Flooring and More.

The evening will run from 6 to 9 p.m. at their showroom, 101-20579 Langley Bypass, and offer a low-barrier opportunity to learning about the renovation process, what to expect, and how to get started, says Tomes, who in addition to his own experience as a longtime contractor, is also a director of the Lower Mainland Better Business Bureau, and volunteers his time and expertise with the Home Inspection Association of BC and the Province’s energy efficiency-focused BC Step Code.

“We’ll walk around the different areas of the showroom and talk about how to organize a renovation, what to expect during a renovation, how to choose items – and what some of these choices mean,” Tomes says.

For example, if you get a quote on installing a new bathtub, it likely doesn’t include the cost of replacing the plumbing behind the walls, which will probably be necessary to accommodate the new fixtures and fittings.

“We’ll talk about things like how to hire a contractor, and we’ll do that over a glass of champagne and appetizers.

“We really want these events to become regular evenings,” Tomes says. “And for those who can’t make it on Tuesday, come in any time and our showroom team will ensure you receive the same VIP treatment.”
