Township councillor Petrina Arnason has announced she will seek re-election in October.

Township of Langley council member Petrina Arnason has formally announced her re-election campaign for the Oct. 20 election.

“It has been an honour to serve the community for the last four years, and I would be proud to continue my service, if re-elected,” said Arnason.

She said her choice to be a full-time councillor has enhanced her ability to forge excellent working relationships with a wide variety of community and government stakeholders and to move many initiatives forward.

“In addition to my formal duties, I have also attended monthly Metro “Climate Action Committee” meetings. If re-elected, I wish to put my name forward as a director so that the Township of Langley will have direct input into Metro’s longer-term vision of reducing GHG’s, adopting more EV infrastructure, and adapting to climate change.

“In this term, I have actively pursued on-going community engagement by establishing office hours so that residents can meet with me personally to discuss their interests and concerns.”

With respect to the new council mandate, there are a number of critical initiatives going forward, said Arnason.

These include the Township’s new Economic Strategy, Neighbourhood Plans in Brookswood/Fernridge, as well as the Social Sustainability Strategy currently being developed.

There is also the important public policy discussion regarding licensing and siting for cannabis-related businesses, once recreational cannabis has been legalized for use in Canada.

“There are also a number of specific projects that she has been laying the groundwork for in the past year or two, including the siting and development of a much-needed new medium-sized library in Willoughby, as well as a number of other initiatives that I believe will be beneficial for the Township, as a whole.”
