The 200th Street sewer and water upgrade, called the Carvolth Trunk Sewer No. 2 Project, is starting, several months after first expected.
Motorists may have seen workers on the area of 200th Street and 53rd Avenue starting the work.
Metro Vancouver is upgrading the regional sanitary sewer system within the City.
The work involves the construction of a new sewer pipe along the right-of-way from Fraser Highway to 57A Avenue, along a portion of 57A, along 200 Street from 57A to Michaud Crescent, then along the BC Hydro right-of-way to 53 Avenue.
The City has partnered with Metro Van to do some upgrading of water, sanitary and storm water utilities that run beneath 200 Street between 50 Avenue and Fraser Highway.
Once the underground work is done, the full width of 200 Street will be repaved from 50 Avenue to Fraser Highway.
The traffic management strategy will generally maintain continuous traffic, one lane in each direction along 200 Street throughout the duration of the project. It’s expected to take until September. The timeline could change depending on weather and soil conditions.
There will be temporary detours at times and the work will adhere to the City noise bylaw (7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays). Any work outside these times must have City approval.
There will be some utility service disruptions and residents will be given prior notice.
