The Abbotsford Police Department has issued a public notification about a sex offender with a history of crimes against children.
The APD says Gary Reid Hoare’s latest prison sentence expired last week and he is now living in the Abbotsford area.
Hoare, 65, has a criminal history that includes convictions for sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching and making child pornography. He has also been convicted for repeatedly failing to adhere to court-ordered conditions.
In 2005, he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy in Hoare’s home in Scarborough, Ont., and of making child porn when he took photos of the boy in sexually explicit positions.
Hoare was released from jail and placed on probation, and began living in a home in Ontario that was owned by a woman who let him babysit her nine-year-old daughter alone in the house for extended periods in 2006.
The girl slept in the same bed, was exposed to Hoare when he was naked, and was molested by him, according to news reports.
The mom went on trial for allowing her daughter to be left alone with Hoare and another man, both of whom she knew to be convicted sex offenders. In 2011, she was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison, and Hoare was handed a jail term of six years and four months.
The other man, who also molested the girl, was given a two-year sentence.
Hoare is 5'10" and weighs 200 pounds. He has grey hair and blue eyes.
He has been released under several conditions:
– not to contact or communicate with, or be in the presence of, any female child under 16 years of age (or reasonably appears to be under 16 years of age) except as necessary for a commercial transaction in a store;
– not to attend any public park, school ground, daycare centre, swimming pool, playground, skating rink, community centre or recreation centre where people under the age of 16 are present or might reasonably be expected to be present, unless he is in the company of an approved adult except for attendance at a professional sports arena or stadium for scheduled games;
– not to seek or accept any employment or volunteer positions that may allow access to children;
– not to possess, own or carry any weapons including firearms, imitation firearms, crossbows or explosives;
– not to possess any knives except for the immediate consumption of food;
– not to leave the Province of British Columbia without permission from the courts or his probation officer; and
– to immediately advise his probation officer of all intended or ongoing close or intimate sexual relationships and non-sexual relationships and friendships with males and females that have parental responsibility for children under 16 years of age.
