Advance vote draws higher turnout in Langley

Elections BC reports increased numbers during first two days of balloting

The first two days of advance polls are reporting higher voter turnout in B.C. compared to the last provincial election.

Figures released by Elections BC show 231,034 people voted during the early polls Saturday and Sunday, compared to 188,754 in the first two days of advance polling in the 2013 provincial election, which took place on a Wednesday and Thursday.

That’s an increase of roughly 18 per cent.

In the Langley riding, turnout was up from the precious year, with 2,639 voting compared to 2,338 the previous year.

There are 40,077 eligible voters in the Langley riding.

In Langley East, a new riding created out of the former Fort Langley-Aldergrove riding that has different boundaries, a total of 2,875 voted in the new riding, compared to 1,834 in the old riding.

There are 46,480 eligible voters in the new riding.

The next advance poll will run Wednesday, May 3 and Saturday, May 6.
